These bills, recently signed into law, provide revisions to AB655 signed last year. Under the new law, California employers must provide a check box on the disclosure or a separate written form where the applicant can indicate they wish to receive a copy of any investigative consumer report ordered on them (Click here to see the California Release Form in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format). If the applicant requests a copy of the report, the report must be provided within 3 business days of receipt from the consumer reporting agency. The requirement to provide a cover sheet with the report has been eliminated. Note: None of this affects the guidelines of the Fair Credit Reporting Act which must be adhered to when ordering background checks on applicants. The full text of each law can be obtained at: www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html Enter the bill number and enter the legislative year as 2001-2002. (Note: The above links will open in a new window)
